Ezakheni Marathon raises gender-based violence awareness

200 grocery hampers were given to elderly community members.

The Zithei Race Against Gender-Based Violence was held in Ezakheni recently. Offering distances of 5km, 10km and 21km, the race started and ended at Zithei Lodge.

The event aims to raise awareness and encourage personal and community responsibility to end the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV). The main race route included key community landmarks such as the police station and clinic, symbolising justice, healing and unity.

This annual community event is growing, and more categories and stakeholders are taking part.

Introduced this year was a mini bike race and a powerful motorbike display by Suzuki, in collaboration with local biking communities. The Ezakheni community was encouraged to unite in order to foster the strength needed to confront GBV through this initiative.

Additionally, 200 grocery bucket hampers were gifted to elderly community members, many of whom are overstretched caregivers. This gesture brought dignity, food security and joy during the festive season.
