Search for Siyabonga’s remains in Klip River continues

His clothes were found near the river.

About 9 months have gone by since Siyabonga Zikalala went missing after he allegedly escaped from police custody in April 2025.

It is alleged that he was last seen at home, when a police officer came to arrest him. According to the SAPS, he escaped immediately upon arrival at the police station. Police say it is likely that he jumped into the Klip River near the steel bridge in Kandahar Avenue.

Zikalala’s family has yet to find closure since the incident took place.

This week, the search for his remains began again after his clothes were mysteriously found on the riverbank near the bridge.

On Monday (January 5), family and Steadville community members, together with the police, gathered along the Klip River after a ‘prophet’ told the family he could lead them to the body. However, the operation was stopped when the ‘prophet’ suggested that a ritual must be done first.

Today (January 6), the operation resumed and community members started to dig as per the instructions of the ‘prophet’. At the time of publishing, they had not found anything.
