Winterton community protests, blocks R600 after woman’s murder

No arrest has yet been made and authorities are continuing their search.

Residents of Winterton took to the R600 road today (February 12), staging a protest after the murder of a local woman. The community blocked the road early this morning, expressing anger and frustration over the incident.

Foreign national suspected

It is alleged that the woman was killed in the area, and community members suspect that a foreign national may be responsible for the crime.

Local leadership comments

Councillor Dlamini (Okhahlamba Local Municipality Ward 1) confirmed that tensions began rising yesterday.

“Actually, this started yesterday. The community is angry that a woman was killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, who is a foreigner. Now the community is saying that foreign nationals must leave,” said Dlamini.

At this stage, the boyfriend has not yet been found and authorities are continuing their search.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to clear the R600 following disruptions caused by the protest.
