Dundee High School excels in sport and enriches learning through live Shakespeare performance.

Dundee High School delivered an impressive all-round performance at the recent Orange Grove Sport Festival, hosted by Sarel Cilliers High School. Learners showcased skill, discipline and sportsmanship across hockey, rugby, netball and chess.

Hockey triumph and netball dominance

The boys’ first hockey team drew with Empangeni and Ladysmith before defeating Vryheid 2-0 and Ferrum 1-0. They progressed through the semi-finals on penalty flicks and secured the title after another penalty shoot-out victory in the final against the hosts.

The girls’ first hockey team recorded draws against Escort and Ferrum and a 1-0 win over Empangeni.
They finished second in their pool, narrowly missing out on progression on goal difference.
In netball, Dundee High beat St Dominic’s Newcastle 8-3, Newcastle High School 9-4 and Harvest School 14-0. Zamaphanga Maphanga, Ziyanda Thungo and Mandie Conradie were named ‘Players of the Match’. The final group fixture was cancelled due to rain.

The chess team also impressed, strengthening strategy and teamwork in a competitive environment.
Shakespeare brings classroom text to life
Learners recently attended a live production of Othello, one of their prescribed texts. Experiencing the stage play deepened their understanding of its themes of jealousy, betrayal and honour.

Shakespeare brings classroom text to life

Seeing the complex character of Othello unravel before their eyes brought new insight into the famous warning: “O, beware, my lord, of jealousy…”
The production captured the emotional intensity and moral conflict of the tragedy with clarity and power, making the text accessible, relevant and memorable for a modern audience. Dundee High School can take pride in learners who continue to excel both on the sports field and in academic enrichment opportunities.
