Glencoe to host Holi Festival of Colours celebration

Community gathers for music, colour and family fun at school fundraiser.

The Glencoe Hindu Youth & Cultural Organization, in partnership with Glencoe Primary School, will present the Festival of Colours – Holi – on March 7.

The event will take place at the school grounds from 14:00.

Music, food and family fun

Residents can look forward to a vibrant afternoon filled with colour celebrations, lively music, food stalls and entertainment suitable for all ages.

Entrance is R10 per person, with proceeds going towards the school’s fundraising initiatives.

Organisers have encouraged community members to attend in large numbers and take part in the colourful festivities while supporting a worthy local cause.

What is Holi?

Holi, often called the Festival of Colours, is an ancient Hindu celebration renowned for its vibrant hues, spirited festivities, and deep-rooted cultural and spiritual meaning. Observed predominantly in India and Nepal, Holi also reaches communities around the world. The festival welcomes spring’s arrival (in the northern hemisphere)  celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and brings together people of all backgrounds through playful colour throwing, music, dance, and communal feasting.
