Dundee Regional Court hands down life sentence in brutal tavern murder case

Dundee Regional Court sentences a Pomeroy man to life imprisonment for a brutal tavern murder following an alcohol-fuelled altercation.

The Dundee Regional Court has handed down a lengthy prison sentence to a man who stabbeda fellow tavern patron to death.

Thabiso Madondo, from the Pomeroy area, was sentenced for the brutal and premeditated murder of a man who was stabbed multiple times following an altercation over alcohol at a local tavern in August 2024.

During the trial, witnesses gave detailed testimony and were regarded as credible state witnesses. Their evidence led to Madondo being convicted on charges of murder, robbery and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Presiding magistrate Anton Ferreira sentenced Madondo to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for robbery and three years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that Madondo showed no remorse for his actions.

All sentences will run concurrently.

Family and friends of the deceased told the Courier they were relieved that justice had finally been served.
