Endumeni Local Municipality has pledged to repair dozens of faulty street lights after taking delivery of a new cherry picker vehicle.
Acting municipal manager Martin Sithole made the commitment during a meeting with Glencoe residents, organised by James and Andrea McCarthy, to discuss service delivery concerns.
Councillors Naresh Gopie and Salim Abdool urged residents to report non-working street lights, with more than 100 addresses submitted during the meeting.
Residents also raised concerns about delays in signing off on commencement forms needed by electrical contractors to install new services. The delay was linked to uncertainty over pricing for smart meters installed across Endumeni as part of a R94 million National Treasury project.
Sithole said the matter would be resolved urgently.
Another complaint involved a standby electrician who allegedly arrived intoxicated while attending to a fault. Although a breathalyser test later showed he was within the legal limit, Sithole said an independent investigator would review the incident.
Residents said the meeting helped improve communication with the municipality, and another engagement is expected soon.
