Concerns raised after truck gets stuck under Bell Spruit Bridge

This is not the first time a truck has misjudged the height and gotten stuck under the bridge.

Truck carrying fridges crashes into bridge

A truck transporting fridges got stuck under Bell Spruit Bridge along Shepstone Road on Friday (March 13).

The truck reportedly struck the bridge and was lodged underneath it, causing significant damage to the brand-new fridges it was carrying. The appliances were scattered across the road, leading to traffic delays in the area.

Calls for clear warning signs

Following the incident, several motorists and residents who were at the scene questioned why the authorities have not installed clear and visible warning signs to alert truck drivers.

Community members say that large trucks or vehicles carrying heavy loads should be warned in advance that they are not permitted to use the road in order to avoid similar crashes.

These concerns come after several previous incidents where trucks have also hit the bridge, causing disruptions and delays for other road users.
