Thrilling finish at Vryheid parkrun highlights community spirit

Vryheid parkrun sees thrilling finishes, personal bests, and community support at the 5km event.

The atmosphere was electric at the latest Vryheid parkrun, with a thrilling finish and strong competition across the field.

Close finishes excite runners

While the official results page offers a quick overview of finishing times, it did not fully capture the excitement at the finish line this week. The top two runners crossed the line within a second of each other, with the next three finishers arriving within a minute of the leaders — and of one another.

Cooler weather sparks competitive spirit

The cooler weather appeared to bring out the competitive spirit, with strong performances seen throughout the field. The intensity did not stop at the front either, as runners and walkers remained closely grouped from the first finishers all the way through to the tailwalker.

Community cheers on participants

Adding to the festive atmosphere, many participants stayed on after completing the 5km route, gathering under the shade of the trees and at the lapa to cheer on fellow runners and walkers as they finished. The supportive spirit once again highlighted what makes the Vryheid parkrun such a special community event.

Winners and personal bests

A special mention goes to Mamush Bekele, who claimed first place for the second week in a row — this time with a personal best time.

The top six finishers for the day were Mamush Bekele, Cebo, Lindelani, Tyson, Ntando and Alex.

Among the women, Prudence Nkosi secured the top spot, earning congratulations from fellow participants.

Organisers also expressed their appreciation to the First Responders from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services for their continued presence and support at the weekly event.
