Dundee youth explore job opportunities through rural development programme

Young people gained skills and explored careers at an EPWP event hosted in Umzinyathi District.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Umzinyathi District recently hosted an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) event at the Agriculture Research Station.

The programme brought together various government departments and stakeholders, who presented opportunities aimed at helping young people develop skills and explore potential careers across different sectors.

Representatives from several departments and companies delivered presentations, offering guidance, training information and practical advice on building sustainable careers.

Officials said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to equip youth with essential development skills and improve their employment prospects.

Targeting the unemployed

The department has also opened applications for several EPWP positions for 2026. The programme offers paid, short-term employment opportunities across various districts in the province, targeting unemployed South Africans seeking work experience in government.

Applications are processed through registration for training programmes, where participants also receive guidance on financial planning and career development.

Officials added that similar initiatives will continue to focus on skills development and job creation, helping young people gain the experience needed to enter the workplace.
