‘No Dumping’ signage sponsored to local municipality

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with a total of 12 boards successfully sponsored.

Illegal dumping has long plagued the community, leaving behind unsightly, unhygienic and environmentally harmful conditions. In response, a proactive initiative led by activist Avanash Lakhan has gained strong momentum, bringing together local businesses, private individuals and municipal support to address the issue head-on.

Strong community support for a cleaner environment

An initiative to have NO DUMPING signboards sponsored by local businesses and private sector individuals was undertaken by Lakhan.

The initiative had an overwhelming response and a total of 12 boards were sponsored.

“These ‘No Dumping’ boards are important should there be a case laid against an individual for dumping their waste on someone’s doorstep. Our town needs it,” one of the sponsors stated.

Signage as a step towards enforcement

While the installation of signboards is a positive development, it also highlights the need for consistent enforcement of municipal bylaws. The signs act as a polite yet firm warning to potential offenders, signalling that illegal dumping will not be tolerated.

Call for unity and responsibility

“As a battered community, everyone should stand together and stop this dumping. We hope that these warning signs will deter individuals from dumping and creating an eyesore. I’d like to thank all those who sponsored a board and we look forward to a cleaner town,” said Lakhan.
