Amanzi Kubantu programme continues in Loskop despite setbacks

The district mayor calls upon the people of uThukela to guard against the vandalism of infrastructure.

uThukela District Municipality has reported that the programme known as ‘Amanzi Kubantu’ is continuing in Loskop, Ward 2, despite reported sabotage. The programme is set to bring much-needed water infrastructure to the area in the form of water tanks and taps.

Vandalism disrupts critical infrastructure

Vandalism has temporarily stalled the project, owing to a break-in at the pump station, where key infrastructure was damaged and stolen.

Vandalism hampers service delivery

“Vandalism puts a strain on our ability to continue providing services, as the municipality continues to face significant financial challenges,” said uThukela Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala.

The mayor further noted that where infrastructure has been damaged, it becomes increasingly difficult to fix what has been purposefully broken. This while hundreds of thousands of uThukela residents remain without water.

“uThukela, under the leadership of Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala, continues to champion tangible service delivery,” is the message from the district municipality.
