Pupils battle it out on the chess board
The municipality says that games like chess help to keep youngsters away from social ills
On Wednesday (October 4), Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality held a successful chess tournament at the Estcourt Town Hall.
Learners from different schools in the local municipal area competed for top honours. The participants played three rounds in various age groups, namely under 12, 15 and 19.

The Town Hall was packed with parents, teachers and councillors.
Municipal Community Service general manager Ms ZM Mnyandu said the aim is to hold this tournament on an annual basis and help budding chess players to compete at higher levels, representing the municipality.
The top three in each age group won trophies for their ability to checkmate the opposition.
