La Gratitude achieves water backup goal after Christmas Bazaar

La Gratitude reached its target to improve the water security after a strong community support during their Christmas Bazaar last week. Read more:

La Gratitude has met its target for a sustainable back-up water supply following the success of its Christmas Bazaar on Friday, December 5.

Jomari Batista, who manages the Home of the Aged, said the bazaar was hosted to raise funds for the purchase and installation of JoJo tanks, complete with pumps and pipework.

This will allow the Home to maintain a high standard of hygiene for its residents even when municipal supply is compromised due to burst pipes.

“We frequently go days without water because of burst pipes,” Batista explained, “When this happens we have to drive up and down to other areas with buckets and bottles because we can’t run the facility without water. As you can imagine, this costs us – especially when it comes to fuel.”

Batista thanked the community of Newcastle for its phenomenal support of the bazaar.

Staff at La Gratitude said people were queuing to get in half an hour ahead of time.

The puddings table was a fantastic hit, serving 17 different types of pudding that were sold out within an hour of the bazaar opening for trade.

Batista expressed her sincere appreciation to members of the community who answered her call to donate items to be sold at the bazaar.
