Numerous infidelity studies, surveys and polls have helped identify the top ten reasons why men cheat on their wives or girlfriends. It does not matter whether you live in a big city or a tiny town like Ladysmith. The reasons are not in dispute and neither is the order. Remember, not all men cheat, but if they do, the reason for it will be in this list.

The definitive Top 10 reasons why husbands or boyfriends cheat?

1) Number one on our list is that they just want more. Yes, more sex – The desire for a more active sex life is the key driver to men straying from their partners. In basic terms, they’re just plain greedy.
2) This one is just plain naughty, but your man wants sexual variety – The desire for different types of sex or a particular freaky sex act comes in at number 2. Something you may not allow or are not very good at may drive him to look elsewhere.
3) Men just cannot say no? Yes, he is a sucker for opportunistic sex – Give a man a chance and he gets down. Basically, if he’s presented with an opportunity to have sex without getting caught, he is likely to take it. The overnight stay at a hotel miles away from home. A chance encounter in a bar and wham bam…
4) Almost like number 3 on the list, but this one is more specific. He wants to satisfy his sexual curiosity about having sex with a particular person. Your best friend, a new work colleague, the list is endless and the results are the same, he is going to cheat.
5) When he is no longer as quick on the draw as he used to be, he needs to reaffirm his sexuality. Okay, this is not about the man who cannot get it ‘working’, but more about the man who is hen-pecked. He needs to show himself that he is still a man and maybe the only way he can is in the arms of another woman.
6) There are some men who are just arrogant and believe they have the right to sleep around. They have no remorse when they cheat. This can be cultural or just a divine belief in the right to have sex whenever he wants and with whomever he likes.
7) The ‘thrill of the chase’ or to give it its real world title, ‘the new young thing in the office who flirted with him’ syndrome. More often than not, the act is instantly regretted but…
8) To stroke his ego, among other things. Yes, sir, I am still the best looking guy in the bar, now let me prove it to myself.
9) Friends are sometimes good, but sometimes they can place unbelievable pressure on a man – “Look at that chick, dude. I’m telling you, she wants you…” Some guys cannot handle peer pressure and feel obliged to prove they still have it when their friends are around.
10) Sexual addiction. This guy does not just want more sex, like our number one on the list, he needs it. He is sick and needs your pity and help.
