Sir,
I would like to make a few comments on your article from June 13 – Facebook. Michelle Steenkamp and I are running the agency for these cigarettes at Tri Star Service Station. It is clear that the community is not educated on this new item on the market, so let me share some information.
This new cigarette could be addictive, but so are cigarettes and alcohol.
This item is not intended to stop you smoking, even the manufacturer in China will tell you that. Although if you take into consideration the different amounts of nicotine per millilitre it might help you stop smoking. You get 24, 18, 12, 9, 6 and 0mg/ml nicotine, so if you start with the high amount and end up smoking the 0mg/ml later, then you have effectively stopped.Smoking cigarettes is most definitely more expensive than the e-cigarette. An average smoker smokes about 30 cigarettes a day – the cost thereof would be about R52,50 per day, or R1 575 per month. The e-cigarette oil replacement costs about R280 per month (two bottles of 30ml), and the coil replacement is about R160 per month (one coil every week). The R700 spoken of is a once-off investment – you don’t buy a new cigarette every month. You do not use tobacco in an e-cigarette, you use nicotine oil. The disposable part is the coil that costs R40, and it definitely does not last half a day, it lasts up to a week, depending on how much you smoke. So compare the two and the e-cigarette is much cheaper. The human body is also not made to abuse liquor, nor are there any reasons for drinking. The argument used is also applicable to drinking. Lastly, let me tell you the positive thing about this item: there is no ash that causes a mess, and no matches, therefore no fire hazard.
There is no smoke that stinks or irritates others – in fact you cannot even smell the smoke. No butts and empty packets that you find all over town in the streets. The most compelling argument for e-cigarettes is that they do not contain the approximately 200 chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes, approximately 62 of which are cancer-causing. In conclusion, e-cigarettes are a far healthier alternative to regular cigarettes and are far cheaper.
