Stuck in a sink hole

Talk about potholes! I had the unpleasant experience of ending up in this dirty SINK HOLE whilst parking outside a shop in Alexandra Street on Friday, September 19 at 11.45am.

I would like to ask the Municipal Manager a few questions:

1. Who is responsible for this incident? The crater is in a marked parking area and cannot be seen when one is approaching as it is on a downward slope towards the gutter and is not visible over the bonnet of a vehicle.

2. Who is responsible for the damage to the suspension and tyre of my vehicle? The wheel is not even touching the bottom of the hole! The vehicle is supporting itself on the suspension! (I have to have it assessed).

3. The shop owner mentioned that the sink hole has been there for a number of years….at least three years! Will an attempt ever be made to repair it?

4. Will I be compensated for the generous payment to the six willing men who assisted to get my vehicle back on to “semi terra firma”?

5. Who will foot the bill for my psychological counselling due to the onset of Parkinosonia Estcourtinisitis? (The chronic phobia of parking in Estcourt!)

I never aspired to be an off-road enthusiast, but I was unwittingly forced into it! What about the ever-deepening trough across Phillip Street at the police station? I shudder to think of the disappearance of a taxi and its innocent passengers when it plunges into the nether regions of the earth.

I look forward to a response from Ms Njoko. P.S. I have not sent a report to the municipality as I am sure they are still busy doing an investigation into the complaints about the sinkhole over the last number of years.
P.P.S. I read with extreme interest that a Howick resident was awarded R450 000 for damages and medical treatment for a pothole related incident; NOTE I said POTHOLE not SINK HOLE.
