Once the relentless winds from last week subsided, local farmer Ronald Rohrs went out early on Saturday morning to start up their pivot. But when he arrived at the dam, he noticed that the transformer at the pump had been ransacked.
He only found bits and pieces strewn around the pump house.
He was desperate to get the water running but now was faced with this dilemma. After notifying the authorities and getting case numbers from the SAPS, he could notify Eskom. Eventually on Saturday night he received a phone call from an operator at Eskom. The Eskom operator said he had only then, been given the go-ahead to tend to the matter and he wanted to inspect the scene, as he wanted to come and fix it in the morning.
He came around and had a look, even though it was dark. We all thought if they come to fix the transformer on Monday morning, we will be very lucky! But a little later during the morning after returning from church, we spotted a truck and an Eskom vehicle at the dam. Ronald went around on his way to the dairy in the afternoon, whereupon Mr Vika Meyiwa, an Eskom operator and his team of four men had been working all morning to replace the transformer.
Ronald and Alec Rohrs would like to express their sincere thanks to Vika Meyiwa and his team for their fantastic efforts and their rapid response to get the power restored again. Systems may be failing us, but people make the difference.
Grateful Customers
