Sir,
Cllr Bedassi has raised more questions than answers concerning the price of water (Courier, November 21).
Firstly, the stepped increase in the price of water exceeds 12% and is not 10% as he claims. Secondly, not all residents received 6Kl free water – simplexes, duplexes and blocks of flats have been denied free water despite representations made to Umzinyathi Municipality.
Generalised statements lack truth. Thirdly, he makes no mention of lowering the threshold from 60Kl to 40Kl where the maximum charge is introduced.
Why the silence on this devious means of raising the water price? This last point effectively increases the water price in excess of 30%. One is forced to ask where the opposition councillors were when the price of the most basic human need – water – was raised beyond the reach of most households in Umzinyathi?
