Complain when you have to but also give praise when it’s due

I am a big complainer. I am also a very big giver of praise, whenever it is due

Sir
I am one of those people who demands great service everywhere I go. And the reason for this, I believe, is if you are in the service industry, be it retail, government etc., you need to have a high level of standards in order to ensure that the customer comes back to you over and over again.
So in this regards, I am a big complainer. I am also a very big giver of praise, whenever it is due. Whether it is the friendly cashier at Pick ‘n Pay or the super-efficient packer at Charlie’s Spar who always pushes my trolley to the car.
I had an encounter with the SAPS in Durban this week where I had complained about the bad treatment of an elderly relative by the Police and came into contact with two very opposite personalities working at the same place. The first was a stunning example of great public service where the officer spoke politely, kindly and very professionally.

The second was a rude, ill-mannered officer who was harsh and lacked any professionalism. So this got me thinking… I personally have never encountered any such bad mannered people in Dundee and Glencoe in any large sector so far. The SAP, the Ambulance, Hospitals, Home Affairs, retail stores, even petrol stations and restaurants all speak politely.

They address you as Sir and Madam and they do their best to assist you.
Even though one rotten egg may sometimes spoil the image of an entire organisation, I wish to commend all of you all in Dundee and Glencoe who make our daily experiences a pleasant one, who find the time to listen and care, who put the customer first… From those who go the extra mile, to those who flash that big acknowledging smile when they see you, and for those who have to deal with difficult clients but still be kind…you make my day!! Don’t ever think you go through your routines unnoticed – many out there appreciate what you do. Happy 2015 to you all.
