Editor – One of the buzz terms today is “load-shedding”, but what an unpleasant phenomenon. It has nothing to do with losing weight and looking like a pop / film star. No, rather it’s all about losing power in the worst way. No electricity, sometimes for three-hour stints, so no watching pop music or movies on TV. Darkness reigns and it has nothing to do with the Devil!
It has everything to do with Eskom and their apparent failure to maintain their infrastructure. Blaming everything on the days of apartheid is a disturbing trend that seems to be commonplace in this country. We all know that playing the blame game, whether in relationships or otherwise, doesn’t get you very far. We also know that over 20 years has passed since we entered “democracy”, so the ‘powers that be’ should at least slowly begin to take responsibility for what’s happening in the present and stop flogging a dead horse by blaming a past that’s dead and gone. How will we ever move forward if people’s minds are continually stuck in the past.
But I digress! Yes, my point is: Why has the infrastructure not been taken care of and upgraded as necessary in all this time? Now we sit with over-worked power stations that can’t handle the strain, over-extended still by providing electricity to those who do not pay rates!
uThukela do the same thing with their, “We inherited dilapidated infrastructure.” What horse manure! If you’re in charge and let things slide into a state of disrepair, whose fault is it? People who were in power over 20 years ago? Grow up and pull your finger out!
Is there something I’m missing here? If I am, please let me know.
