Thugs target old people

It has become the norm now and nobody seems to be turning a hair

Editor – After reading your paper lately, it has occurred to me that only the elderly people of Ladysmith are being targeted by criminals.

Two weeks ago, an old man was killed at his home for only a cell-phone and a laptop. And this very week, another elderly man was tied up for five  days and left to die, just for his money.

Why is it that only the weak and frail are being targeted in our town? Are the police not doing their job properly when they get the call of a housebreaking or a pensioner being attacked in their home?

It has become the norm now and nobody seems to be turning a hair. These people can’t fight back because they are bedridden or in a wheelchair, and they are attacked and sometimes even killed for something small like a phone or pension money. It’s a tragedy!

I feel, as a concerned Ladysmith resident, that the police need to tighten up on the calls they get and work harder to put these criminals behind bars where they can’t harm any senior citizens.

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
