Madam – I recently read an article and I want to share the information with residents.
There are so many life-threatening diseases we are exposed to on a daily basis. From cancer to HIV and more, mortality rates are increasing steadily thanks to the amount of unhealthy foods and sugary drinks we consume. Meals are eaten for convenience instead of nutrition, because the busy working mom hardly has the time to plan menus and cook only healthy meals for her family.
I make sure to drink at least two litres of water a day, but I will admit to being active in the ‘takeout’ brigade as most days I buy my lunch and sometimes dinner, because there is no time to cook or I am just too tired at the end of a long day at work.
I think the same can be said for most people who work, but I never stopped to think what a simple thing like cooldrink was doing to my body until I had a diabetes ‘scare’ last week. Diabetes, according to some research I did, is a long term condition. I knew very little about the disease until I was forced to acknowledge that my blood sugar levels were bordering on the dangerous side.
The complications linked to diabetes are scary: eye, foot and skin complications; hypertension; heart problems; stroke; infections; cuts and lesions take longer to heal…the list goes on!
I have now become more aware of what I am putting into my body and I want to encourage the community to do the same because we only have one life and one body, and we need to treat it with the respect it deserves!
