792 Newcastle pupils were promoted to matric after failing Grade 11. We asked our Facebook readers what they thought of the country’s ‘Progression Policy’:
Madge Hellerle – Criminal as far as I am concerned. If you Didn’t Work for it you Don’t earn it!!!!!
Ryno Peanat Connoway – Pathetic. These are the same people that will operate on you in theatre. Will become a doctor. An engineer. Will you trust these people with your life? We are already there as we speak. Oeps
Grant Rudolph – Well, they have to get through school somehow.
Hendrik Willemse – No words to describe the feelings I have. No wonder everything in this country is going downhill.
Phakeme Dladla – Such Disgrace!! It pathetic!! So no more working hard for your grades?? Smh and then they say pupils don’t study when the Matric Passing Rates is Low but they’re busy Promoting Learners that are not ready for the Next Grade.
Carol Peyper Lourens – They’re supposed to be the future leaders! No wonder our country is in such a mess!
Rayanne Woodings – I’d rather not say what I’m really thinking coz I will be banned……Instead I’ll just say this – this basically makes Matric certificates even more WORTHLESS!!!!! What kind of message is this sending out????? “You don’t have to work hard or study hard in school to get your matric because we will just give it to you anyway” What’s the point if working for it then – they might as well just hand them out on street corners or at the robots like advert flyers….
Marthinus du Plessis – How can one proceed forward if you can’t pass the basic infrastructure of that , that u are studying , you will not overcome, more complicated challenge s , to come.
Leonie Adlem – Yeah great they will rule the country soon can’t wait to see will come out of that. Why promote them! Just give them a matric certificate yeah why not
Wayne Baxter – Pathetic….. this is where the system will fail and we have to sit back and watch as everything falls apart. The knock on effect of this will be disastrous.
Senzi Maka-Ave Sangweni – I dont want my son to be exposed to ds nonsense dey call education. I must work hard, Private school is a must because public school wont benefit my son with anything except laziness and a mindset that things in ds world get handed to u, dont have to work hard for anything. This is sad really
Thulile Ngobese – The system is failing our children, the new curriculum was signed effective tho it was proved ineffective in western countries, this was bound to happen, sadly everytng has a underlying political ideology. & those on grassroot suffer most.
Keshnee Mohanlal – What!!! Is tis a joke???
Spheineken Taylor Mdlalose – somewhere down the line our parents will be recuited on their everyday jobs because the very same pupils have what we call “connections” this is ridiculouss
Mlue Tinacious – parents should do something about this
Gugulethu Mkhize – Cant you see that the government is shifting away the blame to us as parent in a disguise way. Firstly these kids will not succeed in matric and then they will sit at home without being accepted in any institutions yet they dont allow them to repeat their grades when they fail. I think as a parent if you realise that the kid is not fit to proceed to next grade sit her/him down and explain the need of good grades
Henry De Swardt – Sick! Bring down the Standards and then all the others that had passed, will also look stupid . . .
Hendrik Willemse – Sad to say. This is no April fools joke. I know of other grades where the same has happened. Passed them in order to make place for the other kids that did pass. These kids will expect this through life and will unfortunately get it. I can assure you that it has nothing to do with race. Our education system is failing our children because at the end of the day we will sit with uneducated people to run the services in this country and the country as a whole. Chaos is our future.
Wawisto Duma – its useless… wats the point of promoting a student to the next grade if they aren’t gonna learn anything. its stupid, really…
Robyn Connelly Smith – In the UK students never get ‘held back’ years, they just don’t progress to the next levels in whatever subjects are the issues. It makes the teacher’s job a lot more challenging as you will have students with various levels in one class, but it is doable. Yes, the UK education system has its downfalls, but as a professional in both systems, I don’t believe that this is one of them.
