Statues are symbolic signs

If anger, hatred and bitterness are still in our country, it means that we are breaking down not building

History is a very good subject when revealed truthfully. Our young people need true history because when they compare history with archives abroad and it does not line up, they will feel like fools simply because someone here wanted to rewrite false history because of political reasons.

Politics can change according to what people want but history will always stand. Speaking as a First nation of this country descendant, I feel that those statues should be left alone. Why?

1. Because it is a true reflection of history.
2. Those statues have now formed a connection to the First Nation people because they carry their surnames.
3. The Griquas are connected to the Dutch statues and they can take the matter to court.
4. Other Khoi-San descendants carry English surnames and have a right to those British statues and should protect that history connected to their descendants. If you destroy these statues you are showing these Khoi-San descendants no unity and social cohesion. Let us leave history alone because4 it has already been captured in archives around the world.

The former President stated that the nations of South Africa will be built on forgiveness. If anger, hatred and bitterness are still in our country, it means that we are breaking down not building. This country is proud of its tourist attractions. This could stop the tourists from coming here.
