As Mother’s Day is still fresh in our minds and with this edition of #Fresh Take I do not intend on alienating the father figure or discourage other important relationships between children and adults. Your mother has always done her absolute best to keep you happy without expecting anything in return, right?
Over the years there have been many people who have influenced me and taught me some valuable life lessons, but the person who has taught me some of the most important lessons is my mother. Growing up you don’t truly appreciate your mother for everything she does for you and your family. Some take the opportunity to instil morals, honesty, love, consideration, determination and justice in their children at tender ages.
It is only when you mature that you value you her and realise what an amazing person she is and always has been. How to be a good mother? My mother has taught me how to one day be a good mother. I know there were many things she went without so she could provide for my siblings and I. She feels that as long as she has a home, so will her children, regardless of how old they are or what is happening in their lives.
Patience
She instilled in me that patience is a difficult lesson but what it reaps makes it all worth it. “The storm will pass.” Never make a negative decision in the low time and never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods.
Don’t borrow trouble
She feels that there is no need to borrow trouble by worrying about things that you can’t control. While you can plan for the future, you can’t control it. There is no need to sit and worry about what is going to happen or how someone is going to react to a particular situation. Instead, be happy and live for today.
Pursue your dreams
Need I elaborate? It is but any mother’s wish for her children to pursue their dreams and be happy.
Not to envy
There will always be people who have more than you in life, but there will also be those who have less. She has made me see that we’re all equal and no one is better than you. You should always remember that the person you are envying may actually be very unhappy.Your life can be much better if you simply enjoy the things you have, instead of worrying about what you don’t have.
Not to worry about what others think
At some point we all struggle with what other people think. Mother has taught me to be comfortable with myself, always. Each of us should appreciate what we have in our mothers or a mother figure, and what they have to teach.
They are more than just a mother; they are our teachers, cooks, maids, alarm clocks, nurses, ATMs, hairdressers, counsellors, referees, friends and our role models 24/7. The list is endless but every day with them is an opportunity to grow as a person. Every day away from them is an opportunity missed.
So many different people can provide us with both inspiration and valuable life lessons. It can be a parent, a grandparent, a friend, or a total stranger. Share your wonderful stories of how your mother or mother figure has inspired you or influenced your life. BBM me the most valuable life lessons you were taught @ 2BC8F9C6.
