Victims of a lewd mind

As the son of an alleged paedophile, he and his family live with dark clouds over their heads. It was extremely brave of him to take the steps to share his side of the story as the culprit's family are often crucified along with the offender.

Dear Madam,

When one hears stories about sex offenders, you always tend to think of the immediate victims.

While one cannot ignore the fact they were violated, one tends to forget the perpetrator’s family are also victims in a sense. They have to live with the knowledge that their loved one stole a child’s innocence, invaded a woman’s body, and all for selfish gratification.

These people are then harassed by the town’s people, but why do the families have to pay the price for the accussed’s faults?

Is it not bad enough that they have to live with the fact that their family member has destroyed a life?

It is with this in mind that I take my hat off to the young man who shared his story in Newcastle Advertiser on May 22.

As the son of an alleged paedophile, he and his family live with dark clouds over their heads. It was extremely brave of him to take the steps to share his side of the story as the culprit’s family are often crucified along with the offender.

I hope he finds some solace in knowing his father’s actions in no way reflect upon him.
