Editor – It is unfortunate that Dr HG Magan resorts to a newspaper and the public domain to discuss a matter that could be resolved in an amicable and professional manner.
Despite my personal meeting with him and assurances that the school will publish the magazine, he pursued the matter further.
In addition, we reassured him that the school would refund his contribution of R300 for the six magazines and we would continue with the task of publishing a magazine that highlights Windsor’s legacy.
Despite our commitment to Dr Magan, he seems unhappy with the progress we are making to address the shortcomings of the ‘WCCC’, who had volunteered to deliver the magazine but were unsuccessful.
I must once again emphasise that the entire commemoration of the Windsor Centennial was a private initiative of a team of dedicated and committed alumni.
Dr Magan was one of those who were invited to assist on the basis of his vast knowledge of the school and its history.
Once the 100 years festivities were concluded, the ‘WCCC’ was disbanded as it had fulfilled its desired goals.
The school has now undertaken to complete this magazine, despite many challenges and difficulties.
One of which is the challenge of attracting advertisers, noting that the publication costs are astronomical and the ‘Public Finance Management Act’ forbids the use of school funds for such a purpose.
In response to Dr Magan’s concerns:
1. 30 persons have thus far paid for the magazine (30 x R50 = R1500).
2. Sponsors have contributed an amount of R12,000.
3. All monies are in the original envelopes they were collected in. Persons wishing to be refunded or who have any queries should contact the school on the following number: 036-637-3632.
4. Dr Magan’s contribution of R300 for the six magazines has been reimbursed.
