In this day and age of information that is so readily available and awareness that is wonderfully widespread, ignorance is truly a choice. It is inspiring to see so many women taking control of their own situations and rejecting being undermined and it is even more motivating to see good men encourage this!
One mistake women made in the past is not being part of their husband’s financial planning. Unless you and your husband have separate financial plans, please involve yourself in his. Statistically women outlive men so I encourage, in fact challenge all husbands to update their wives in the planning. If you are employed yet still rely on your husband’s income or if you are a home executive, ensure the Last Will and Testament is structured to simplify and not complicate your life should your husband pass away first.
Ensure that there is adequate life cover so that you are not saddled with enormous debt and the loss of income so that you may sustain the same standard of living and you are able to retire independently. Another short sight is lack of life cover, which would mean possibly depleting his pension/retirement funding, which may be a short term solution but remember if his retirement plan was yours too, you may have a serious problem at old age. Have your own savings. Save towards your own emergency plan. Save towards your own long term goals.
If you are a home executive who says you shouldn’t have your own bank account and savings? Your health is also your wealth too! You can only give off your best when you are at your best! ‘No’ is not a swear word, it’s setting boundaries especially when you are over committed so don’t be the old and trusted ‘people pleaser’ if it’s draining your spirit.
Don’t accept physical or mental abuse. Sadly woman to date, silently suffer not only because of the psychological manipulation from her abuser but because of the stigma society sometimes casts on them. There are laws for your protection but YOU need to seek them. Courage is feeling the fear yet doing what’s necessary anyway! Wishing all ladies a Happy Woman’s Day on August 9! May you celebrate each day of your womanhood with enthusiasm and live by wisdom, self-respect and celebrate your life with positivity and fortitude!
