Madam – Once long ago a jealous husband locked me in the servants room of the house we were renting.
I had gone to the room to call my maid and the next thing I heard a bang and I was locked in for two days. No food or water.
My maid had gone home in the interim. Fortunately for me I stood on her bed and screamed to the neighbour behind through a small window and the kind domestic behind me brought me water in a 2-litre bottle.
My husband was drunk and only when he sobered up did he realise what he had done.
I am so disgusted about calves bound and abandoned, restrained by a short rope, no water in sweltering heat, even a tree nearby. So for many of us a fine is not enough for the owner of the poor animals.
The owner should be bound, abandoned and left to suffer.
We applaud SPCA Elize van Rooyen and Loma Muyunda of Newcastle Stock Pound for their kind concern.
