Madam – I have been reading the articles about the top matric pupils in your paper since the beginning of this year, and I want to congratulate every pupil who worked so hard to achieve such great results.
What became obvious to me is that the students all displayed a great work ethic and all of them said hard work and dedication paid off for them in the end.
I want to tell all pupils for this year to pay careful attention to their advice, because at the end of the day, while matric may not seem so important but more like hard work, it is ultimately the year when your decisions and actions begin to shape your future.
I know there are now plenty of options out there for children who cannot cope with matric, but I want them to know that trying and failing is better than failing to try completely.
It has been many years since I completed my schooling and it is heartwarming to know the same core values exist despite the way the world has changed in terms of technology and social media.
We always say that the millenials are more interested in their online profiles than in what is actually happening in their real lives, and it was great to note that these children have found a good balance between their work and social lives.
Congratulations to all the top achievers as well as those who passed matric – I hope you follow your dreams through to the end and make all of us proud.
To the class of 2017 – you have a very bright future ahead of you. Concentrate, study and work hard, find the time to have fun with your family and friends, and most importantly, know that your actions this year will set the tone for the rest of your professional career.
