Sir
Perhaps you have your own definition of the noun ‘father figure’. I also have mine, a derivative from traditional experiences, but since I am writing in the English language, it is imperative that I use the Oxford dictionary definition. It’s ‘an older man that somebody respects because he will advise and help them like a father.’
Perhaps it is also very appropriate and logical to give herein, a few of his extraordinary deeds. I would need a pen the length of a swamp reed and a paper the size of the Indian Ocean to explain how this man has assisted me over the years.
He is a choir conductor and though retired, that title remains his, so it would not be justice to say he ‘was’ a choir conductor.
For an unknown reason – I blame inspiration though, after seeing him conduct a school choir, I was moved to give him Sesotho music books by a famous composer, Joshua Pulumo Mohapeloa from Lesotho (May his soul rest in peace). Little did I know that I had encountered my God-sent redeemer.
All problems, big or small, I was not hesitant and still am not hesitant, to inform him before just any other being, of it and everything I got absolutely correct, as the advice he gives is not only brotherly but fatherly.
When I obtained my university degree, he left all his chores to accompany me and literally drove me to Durban for my graduation ceremony.
What a sacrifice!
I needed a site on which to build as I was weary of staying in cottages. He directed me to appropriate authorities and even assisted me with fitting a metered water supply and an electrician to wire my house. I presently possess the highest voltage in my area, all thanks to him.
As if this was not enough, the assistance he gave me in my application for an early retirement was invaluable. I managed to procure capital-generating machinery and a top of the range Toyota Hilux Van (which raises envy, even from among the richest in the area).
The list is endless. Had it not been because of his unwavering hospitality and patience, I wonder where I would be at present.
If there is a human being I am indebted too, it is him.
What can one say! Pray for him for God’s redemption, for him to see many more years. This is none other than Reverend BM Ntshangase of 50/4 Malamba Avenue, Nquthu.
