Sir
The community of Glencoe Ward 7 made it clear to the Endumeni Council that radical economic transformation starts at a community level and that council will not compromise on radical economic transformation.
The so-called disruptions were necessary.
The community at the budget meeting will not be forced or bulldozed into accepting that budget, that is why we flatly rejected it and asked Councillor Bedassi to take that budget back to the drawing board and in that process to come back to the communities of ward seven to seek community input.
We noted that the Speaker complimented the ward councillor for being the only councillor to provide her with reports.
The community was amused.
We need feedback from our ward committee.
With all due respect, the spouse of any ward councillor should not be permitted to serve on a ward committee.
We want action and we want it fast.
We want the railway station to be given attention and roads and potholes fixed, better employment conditions for part-time workers and grass cutting to be improved.
We are not going to accept the budget in the format in which Ms Chenia presented it. Councillor Bedassi must put his foot down and make sure that paying ratepayers get their money’s worth and that poverty, unemployment and inequality are addressed in the IDP.
We want houses to be built very, very urgently.
Councillor Bedassi must have his phone on and be ready to come to the people when we need him.
The Council must explain how they wish to see hawkers and small traders benefiting from the municipality’s local economic development initiatives, The Speaker and Mr Mabilisa must humble themselves and not shout us down.
We have a right to express ourselves freely.
Until all our demands are met we will fight on.
The struggle continues.
I am not fighting a political battle on behalf of my organisation, the ANC.
This is a community battle which is non-political.
