Madam – Your article “Angus takes us on a starry adventure” of the Advertiser dated May 5, 2017 refers.
I have been following Mr Burns posts on social media with excitement and wonder for the past few weeks. He posts such beautiful photos, but not only that, he also takes the time to explain how the photos are taken as well as gives information about the constellations and the images.
My children have discovered a love for astronomy because of his efforts to educate the public.
They have taken to coming to me each day and asking me to check if “the star uncle” posted anything new so they can read and admire it! It’s a beautiful thing to be such a positive influence on young minds these days, especially as more and more children become so insulated in their own worlds because of technology and social media.
I want to thank Mr Burns for the knowledge he is sharing with the residents, and thank the Advertiser for taking the time to talk to him about it. Knowing how this project started, and how much effort he puts into each image, is truly inspiring.
His posts have also made me realise the importance of not letting the small things get me down. We are all but a small speck in this vast universe, and we all have to answer to a Higher power. We should all take the time to make each other’s lives more significant, by giving selflessly and seeking to expand our own knowledge.
Mr Burns also highlighted the importance of preserving our environment, because it is the only one we have, and nature is a wondrous thing. I hope everyone who read this article takes the same message from it that I did – the survival of the environment and the human race is not something we should take for granted.
Amelia
