Support group for people suffering with chronic pain, cancer and disabilities

When a person suffers, they go through emotional, mental and physical trauma. The support group is there to support these people and show them that they are not alone and they are not the only ones that suffer

Three months ago, I started a support group for people suffering with chronic pain, cancer and or disabilities. We are a non-profit organisation that helps people that are suffering, their spouse or partner, their caregiver or anyone who would like to learn how to help someone that is suffering.

When a person suffers, they go through emotional, mental and physical trauma. The support group is there to support these people and show them that they are not alone and they are not the only ones that suffer.

These people lose all purpose of life and think of the worst, like suicide. We want to try and help them and bring them back to Godhood. Most of the time, even if they go to a place of worship, it’s just for the sake of going.

They lose all hope and have no faith and feel like there is no one that can understand their situation. I have started this support group mainly for these people but it is not restricted to them. Spouses, partners, caregivers or if someone who would like to just show support can also learn how to deal with people in this situation and show love to these people.

We offer talk therapy and many other types of therapy. We try to understand each person’s unique situation and try to assist with their situation. We talk about the different things that affects a person like depression, anxiety, stresses, chronic pain and many other issues and look at different ways to try and overcome that situation.

When people see others in the same boat as them, they realise that they are not alone and feel more comfortable to talk about their situation and share with others what may have helped them and or hear what has helped someone else. We offer information where possible and the most important thing is that we show love to those that feel that no one cares for them. I have an untreatable and incurable disease and I have suffered for more than 19 years.

I know what I went through without any type of support group to help me or my family cope. So, that is why I want to help others who are going through what I have been through and show them that they are not alone. With the help of others, we are fighting back and we want to bring them back to God.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, it is not the end of the road for those that suffer. This group is not to compete with any other church or organisation, but is meant to help those that feel that there is no hope. Remember that pain does not discriminate, there is no creed or colour and there is no age limit. Just like any disease, pain is a disease.

We also offer counselling were possible and marriage counselling if and when required. We also have a psychologist, physiotherapist, priests, doctors when needed and cancer organisations that have joined us. The South African Depression And Anxiety Group has also partnered with us and is more than willing to assist where possible. This group is not limited to Christians, but it is open to anyone and everyone. (Any age, colour and religion, no discrimination).

I believe that one man can make a difference; Jesus did it for the world. Ask yourself, what can I do to make a difference in someone’s life? If we start with one person, that is you, then imagine how many people will change and how much better life would become for everyone.

See, the person next to you, may not be as fortunate as you are. Do you know if that person has something to eat before they take their medication? It’s the simplest things that we take for granted and fail to understand about the next person.

Please feel free to enquire more about anything that you would like to know. Also, come join us at our next meeting on July 16 at 4pm at the AFM Church, and if you feel that there is no need for you to come again, then so be it. But remember, we need to show people that are suffering that we care about them and we need to show them that we love them.

2. We look at copping strategies.
3. We share our story and comfort each other so that people know that they are not alone.
4. We educate supporters on how to effectively deal with the different situations.
5. Remember that just one person can make a difference and that person is you.
God bless you and your family
