How can you justify a 351,9% rates increase?

More shocking is the fact that the same business has to now contribute to the municipality's coffers, 33% of its turnover for water, lights and rates

Sir
The new rates bill is a “killer” for existing businesses and a sure turn-off for potential investors and keen young entrepreneurs.

A factual example: a business with a turnover of less than R1,8 million per annum must now pay rates from the previous year’s amount of R4 204.51 per month to a preposterous R18,998.10 per month – an astonishing increase of 351,9%.

More shocking is the fact that the same business has to now contribute to the municipality’s coffers, 33% of its turnover for water, lights and rates. No business can survive such an unrealistic burden.
Furthermore, how is it possible to include a minor business like a B&B in the same rates category as mining properties?

Messrs. Councillors, a serious appeal is lodged with the council to intervene and to competently re-address the out-of-context formula for rates.
