‘What is the true situation in our Council?’

Last week's Courier highlighted how poor people must pay double for rates

Sir
The reports in recent weeks in the Courier have to be cause for concern.
First and foremost we must deal with the statement which was accredited to Dr Bedassi whereby he is saying that the DA wants a forensic investigation into maladministration nepotism corruption etc. etc.
It is strange because the DA is a coalition partner of the IFP. It is mainly on the strength of the DA and to a smaller extent the EFF that the ratepayers find themselves being governed by a coalition and not the party which won the majority support of the Endumeni voters which is the ANC.
That being said it is interesting that the DA has now made a public and clarion call for a forensic investigation.
Obviously, the DA has identified extreme wastage of public money and have decided to take a stand. Bravo DA.
One also begs the question – is there any need for a new community services department to be created at an expense of just over R1m for a manager and PA?
Please, councillors, be realistic.
Last week’s Courier highlighted how poor people must pay double for rates. Is this what they must pay for? Hell no. Spare some mercy.
People are prevented from purchasing electricity if they do not pay their rates. Mr Mayor is this what you want to spend ratepayers money on. Some business people are forced to pay in excess of R40 000 a month.
Finally, there is talk of over R1.2m which was used to fire Desiga Padaychee.
Was this exorbitant expenditure necessary to settle political scores?
We as ratepayers demand accountability and wait with baited breath for the forensic investigation. Surely somebody must stop this nonsense?
