Estcourt once again comes into the world’s spotlight and this time it is humans eating human flesh.
This is not a story but a reality and our people are now in fear. Small children are even talking about it. This has caused serious fear in people’s lives in and around Estcourt.
The biggest shock is for the court to dismiss such cases. Being a commissioner myself on culture, religion and language, I know very well that one cannot use your culture or religion to harm others.
The Human Rights Commission must take this seriously and the CRL, if this was a cultural practice. We feel very unsafe and our children are in danger.
Colita has become a nightmare and once upon a time, it was so safe and such a quiet place to be. Now the knock of drums keeps us awake all night, very loud drums and noises.
This goes on every night and day. Go to Wembezi and you will find it so quiet. So what is going on? Why is Colita so noisy and full of crime?
Now this, the eating of human flesh. We need to stand up to all this and play hard ball. Respect is nowhere, it must start. Your religion and culture must respect the people of Colita.
If not there is going to be a shift of how things are done. Colita is not rural but urban and is a coloured township, so don’t bulldoze what the residents of Colita are doing, that would be violating their Constitutional rights.
I think that the patience of people in Colita has run out. The behaviour of these visitors is out of order and we, as a community, will have to get up and reclaim our space and put controls in place.
We are still busy trying to find out who are these people that are eating human flesh. We need to protect this community and our children. We will not sit back and wait for someone to go missing.
If we are faced with bad spirits, then we will bring spiritual help and if it is criminality, we are bringing strong men to deal with that.
If your culture and religion is making the community fearful, if you don’t have tolerance, friendliness, peace or respect, then the problem is with you. Then this community will deal with you according to the Constitution of South Africa.
