#EASTER2018: Why is it important to allow your child to believe in the Easter bunny?
How much damage can it actually do to allow your child to embrace the idea of this legendary bunny?
The Easter bunny – opinion piece by Zianne Leibrandt:
The Easter bunny is a fluffy rabbit who graciously and strategically places yummy chocolate Easter eggs around the yard the night before the big hunt.

He is loved by many a child, and has been the main name behind stores making money around this time of the year.

Yet many parents don’t approve of the Easter bunny, and do not allow their children to ‘believe’ in his existence.
Religion and different cultural beliefs often come into play in circumstances such as these.
But how much damage can it actually do to allow your child to embrace the idea of this legendary bunny?
In my opinion, I strongly believe that encouraging imagination plays a vital role in a child’s life.
It allows them to believe in something other than the eye can see, and also makes for some awesome childhood memories.
As a child, the most exciting part of Easter for me was running around the back yard finding as many Easter eggs as I possibly could, before my brother found them all.
However, I also knew Easter was about Jesus, but the Easter bunny was a fun way for me to enjoy it.
Remember, as a child, going to church was a complete different experience to that of my mother.
I never worshipped the bunny, but he sure did make the weekend exciting!

As a parent now, I definitely encourage my children to believe in the bunny and to participate in the thrill of an Easter egg hunt, and to sit up waiting to spot the mysterious creature responsible for the overload of candy.
I have personally taught them the true meaning of Easter, and that it is about paying tribute to the Lord.
But allowing them the privilege of believing in the bunny is somehow essential to me allowing them to remain children at heart for as long as possible.
It’s also the opportunity to encourage them to remain humble, and not grow up faster than they have to.
And the pure joy on their sugar hyped faces as they scurry around picking up eggs makes the experience worth it!
Life today is tough enough as it is, and by allowing them to embrace their imagination lets them see the good instead of all the bad.
