LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Those you care about deserve better than being lied to

In this town alone you just have to go through some of the social media groups to see those with dishonorable intentions try to scam kind hearted people with sob stories about their lives.

Madam –

What happened to the value of honesty among friends and family?

It seems like most people lie by default these days.

What is the reason for this?

Are you just trying to get yourself out of trouble for something you may have done or said?

Either way, I think it’s absolutely scary that lying and being dishonest has become a way of life for some people.

Once trust is gone, it could take a lifetime to earn it back.

Don’t you think those you care about deserve better than being lied to?

Maybe it’s the standard that has been set by those in power but lying has become a South African pastime it seems!

If those who we are supposed to look up to don’t give a second thought about being creative with the truth, what hope do we have for the future?

In this town alone you just have to go through some of the social media groups to see those with dishonorable intentions try to scam kind hearted people with sob stories about their lives.

There are those who will use their children to get handouts instead of looking for alternative means of earning an income.

I know times are tough and and employment opportunities are few and far between, but don’t these people know that being honest would be better?

Because once they are caught out in a lie, they ruin things for those who legitimately need help, and then the community won’t want to open their hearts anymore.

It is better to be honest and keep trying than to lie and risk being caught, because then the consequences will be even more severe.

I hope those reading this will think twice about lying when confronted with an uncomfortable situation.

Take it from someone who knows and who could have lost everything due to dishonesty.

Lying has no long term benefits and when you get caught, because you will, you will have no one to blame for the fallout but yourself.
