Editor – At the budget meeting held at the end of May 2018, an amount of R400,000 was allocated to the Alfred Duma Communication Department for the purpose of advertising bylaws and informing residents of proposed projects to be undertaken by council.
The DA, EFF and NPA objected to this allocation, as the amount was deemed to be excessive for the purposes indicated.
I am shocked to see that these public funds have now been used to print calendars and diaries for councillors.
Even more so, it appears that these calendars have not been designed for the purpose of keeping the community informed of future developments, but solely to promote the ANC election campaign.
If funds allocated to a specific vote are being used for another purpose, I am of the strong opinion that these funds could just as well have been used for the general maintenance of the town, instead of advertising the ANC Manifesto.
