Municipal Manager responds to DA councillor’s questions

Allegations of using municipal resources for ANC activities is viewed with serious concern

In response to the letter by Democratic Alliance Councillor Musa Nkala in last week’s edition entitled ‘DA demands:

The reasons for the resignation of the Administrator are known to him and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) who employs the Administrator in terms of Section 139b of the Constitution.

Unfortunately, as the municipality, we also don’t know the reasons for the Administrator not attending the Strategic Workshop.

Electricity provision is done by both the municipality and Eskom. Water is currently supplied by Uthukela District Municipality.

Housing projects are taking place in a number of places and the information is available for perusal.

We cannot comment on the activities of the African National Congress (ANC), as officials but allegations of using municipal resources for ANC activities is viewed with serious concerns and we would welcome any information that will help investigate the matter.

There is a comprehensive plan to deal with service delivery issues and the public is welcome to monitor progress.

While we agree that we don’t have enough resources to address all the challenges, there is a commitment to the efficient, effective and economical use of whatever resources are available.
