Municipality needs to help our crumbling town

She pleaded with the municipality to intervene and help yet they did not

Editor- We all know Ladysmith falling apart, yet there are some people who are greedy enough to rent out their RDP (Reonstruction Development Programme) houses. Most of them did not legitimately deserve to get them in the first place and in the end they complain about service delivery. It is high time now our municipality in the housing department clarifies to the people what is the criteria of qualifying for RDP houses.

I am not attacking my fellow people, but my concern is our municipality which does things without considering all the people that are dependent on it. A few months ago I read about a disabled lady who was renting a room in Ezakheni because she did not have anywhere to live.

She pleaded with the municipality to intervene and help yet they did not .

However, the lady was not the last person to lament the lack of proper shelter to live, a man living in Driefontein had to stay in a pit toilet due to no RDP house for him. So, what I’m trying to say is if our municipality would work hand in hand with the people it leads, at least some of the needs or services that people are complaining about would not have been this problematic.
