POEM: AND THEN… the ocean is no more

Tremendous change on earth, the temperature rising dangerously high, gives us reasons to feel blue about the state of the ocean

Luigi Spano
The voice of the wind thundered across the ocean,
AND THEN – the whispers silenced and slipped into a deep sleep.

In a vast cosmic arena on a speck of dust, suspended in a sunbeam – mankind was formed.
While no one knows the hand of time,
Split seconds tick by.

Minutes become hours, infusing darkness into light, forming day and night.
Months pass – changing seasons and gifting us the sight of magnificent colours.
Years multiply into decades,
AND THEN men’s greed began to destroy the ocean, wreck the land and dismantle the planet.

The tremendous change on earth, the temperature rising dangerously high, gives us reasons to feel blue about the state of the ocean.
Can you not see the dark skies crying out above?
The overflow of trash emerging into the once-blue ocean?

The polluted salt waters convulsed angrily as the ocean bed shook violently,
A helpless Mother Earth looks on as her heart bleeds,
No one wants to admit the truth – just look at what we have done,
We all fall short, but it is up to us to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Embrace the tearful earth now to benefit generations to come,
NOTHING belongs to us at the end of time.
