Editor – Ever since being elected in 2016, Ward 12 has been without an office as a point of contact for the community and their elected councillor. Despite numerous emails to Alfred Duma Local Municipality, petitioning both the MM and the mayor, not a square inch has been found for a Ward 12 office.
When campaigning in the surrounding areas, the community informed the Ward 12 councillor that their specific ward councillor has had an office, each allocated to them and their coms officer, by the municipality. Even in Ward 14, the community reported that a brand new separate office building has been built by the municipality, especially for the ward councillor.
Ward 12’s community hall is the Town Hall and if the municipality kept to the habit of councillors having offices in community halls, the Ward 12 community should have an office in the Town Hall.
Is it perhaps because a councillor from a different political party was elected by voters here?
The Ward 12 councillor was encouraged by the municipality to search municipal buildings and come up with a proposal for office space!
In line with DA policy and being unwilling to cost the ratepayers any more unnecessary money, the hunt for office space has been unceasing over the last three years.
Being aware of the Ward 12 need for an office for their councillor, why is the VIP security afforded a luxury lounge for relaxing, instead of that space being allocated to the Ward 12 community and its councillor?
