Anglers are back at the waters’ edge, after a well deserved festive season break.
Those who form part of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) are raring to stake their claim on numerous titles this season, including the league competition.
Currently, Breakwaters has shown consistency over other clubs.
However, there was a surprise upset at 2013’s final league, with Docrat’s claiming the top spot on 33 points, leading Breakwaters and Freespool by two and five points respectively.
The other clubs in the league are not far off the pace.
Upsets continued throughout the season as it progressed, with many of the favourites at the NFWAA Knock Out Competition eliminated by unlikely opponents.
One such shocker saw Dannhauser AC out-fish Challengers, to advance to the next round of competition.
Riverside AC was upbeat at its victory over arch rivals, Docrat’s, while Chelmsford AC advanced to the semi-finals with a win over the established Glencoe AC.
The encounter between Breakwaters and Freespool was billed the toughest draw of the Knock Out Competition.
Pundits within the NFWAA suspected the current form of both clubs meant the winner was likely to move onto the finals, and Breakwaters ultimately amassed 67 points to 52.
The next round of competition will take place at Richgate Park on January 26.
Breakwaters will be pitted against Dannhauser at this event, while Riverside is set to take on Stillwaters AC.
