KZN women reel in the bronze

The provincial women's team secured third place on the last day of the competition.

Female provincial anglers bagged a bronze medal at the South African Women’s Championships this month.

The KwaZulu-Natal women’s team, representing the KZN Freshwater Angling Union, fought back courageously through trying conditions to clinch third place overall, behind Limpopo and Western Province.

Bloemhof Dam was the setting for the championships, and the team was part of the President’s division.

Comprising eight anglers, a reserve, a manager and a coach, the team struggled in difficult conditions for angling, but ultimately clawed its way up to bronze medal status.

At the conclusion of the championships, three KZN women were invited to attend the National Trials.

These women are: Rika Kotze, selected for the Ladies Protea team; Leboné Boshoff, selected for the Ladies South African Bank Angling Federation (SAFBAF) team and Liz Bugden.

The team manager and coach, also nominated for selection, were selected for national sides:

Bruce McQuade was selected to represent the Ladies’ SAFBAF B team as its manager, while Wikus Marx is now the manager of the Ladies Invitational team.

Congratulations to all anglers selected for national teams, and the women who brought back the bronze!
