Domestic Disturbance keeps the sound going

Sumo Govender and his Honda Civic, which he has dubbed Domestic Disturbance, have shown their worth when it comes to having pumping sound.

It has been said that music can soothe even the most savage beast.

But what happens if it is a beast that keeps the music going?

Sumo Govender and his Honda Civic, which he has dubbed Domestic Disturbance, have shown their worth when it comes to having pumping sound.

Sumo said he became involved with car sound six years ago when installing a sound system in a bakkie.

“Once I got my car, I started [for] myself and have never looked back.”

Having competed in more sound competitions than he can remember, Sumo’s two 12 Star Sound speakers and 7000 Star Sound Amps have seen him driving away with six trophies.

“I compete in the Stock 2 category, which consists of two speakers, the amp, back seat down, two batteries and a 10 inch port. It is a difficult category.”

While he found the competitiveness of sound competitions fun, Sumo said there was more to the competitions than just winning.

“In sound comps, you get to see how you can improve your sound, the different strategies used by other competitors and you get to meet new people and make new friends.”

On Star Sound systems, Sumo said he opted for the brand because of its convenience.

“Star Sounds fits the pocket nicely and it is a good brand.”

While some might not understand the pleasure of loud music, Sumo said that one of the main attractions to a bang-up sound system in his car was the sound.

“I get an enjoyment out of hearing every detail of a song. I would urge others to become more involved in car sound.”

He admitted it was not a cheap hobby, the pleasure it brought was worth it.

“When I drive in town, I turn a few heads. While some shake their heads in disgust, there are those who enjoy it. There is also no better feeling than having car alarms go off when driving through a mall’s parking lot, that’s why it is called Domestic Disturbance.”
