Tanya never stops improving her game
Tanya is an official member of the South African Hockey Association (SAHA) and umpires many games a year for this association, not planning on backing down any time soon.
She is a well known face in Newcastle and now even a well known name in South African hockey.
Tanya Pepler was the first hockey umpire to be selected as the Most Promising Umpire at the Spar KwaZulu-Natal Regional Hockey Tournament. With this outstanding achievement, she will be travelling to Durban in July to take part in the final that will take place at Thomas More College and St Mary’s DSG.

You can always improve your game and I’m learning more every time I umpire a game,” she said.
The love she has for hockey started at a very young age. “I grew up in a home where hockey was the norm. My parents had a love for the game and it has always been a part of me,” she said. Her mother is still sharing her passion for hockey by coaching hockey at Ferrum.
Tanya is a teacher at St Dominic’s Academy and, of course, a coach. “I enjoy seeing the enthusiasm children has for the sport. I coach the U/13 hockey team and enjoy every moment of it.”
She completed matric in 2001 and started coaching the next year. In 2003 she was graded for the first time as an umpire and even though she has already reached major heights in this career, she is still determined to improving her grading.
Tanya is also a dedicated mother to her son, Trent.
With the passion and love Tanya has for hockey, it is impossible to imagine anything but the best from her in Durban later this year.
