Singing nuns offer sideline encouragement

Teams from as far as Cape Town descended on Newcastle for the annual Easter Tournament.

The tournament, hosted at the Newcastle Bowling Club, attracted a small field of 12 teams from across the country, including Sasolburg, Meyerton and Swaziland.

It was a pleasure to welcome The Singing Nuns and former Newcastillians, Robert and Susan Mallinson.

Results for the competition are as follows:

First place – Ernie Phillips, Monty Steele, Mike Martens and Russell Phillips.

Second – Andy Crosbie, Koen Pretorius, Dot Crosbie and Bert Rodgers.

Third – Douglas Steele, Glen Moore, Simon Ball and Lindsay McArthur.

Fourth – Doug Bashford and the Shaw family (Samantha, Stephen and Aspen).

All members who generously contributed to the Easter hamper and eats for the weekend are thanked for their support, as well as Michelle Steele for her superb organisation in running the tournament and catering arrangements.

Lucky pairs

Good bowling to the teams of Trevor Moore and Frans Schoon, and Alice Howe and Ann Wood, who will participate in the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls pairs playoffs in Bergville this weekend.

The club novice singles competition gets under way this weekend, as well as the next round of the Singles playoffs, which are set to take place on April 28.
